Hampshire Cricket League
Regional Division4 South West

Mudeford IV vs. Ellingham 111

On the hottest day of the year, Young Mudeford took on Ellingham. With both sides reduced to ten after late withdrawals, Ellingham batted first and made a good start with openers Potentier (11) and Fry (32) putting on 66 for the first wicket. Dave Patel (2-33) removed both openers in successive balls the first of three Mudeford bowlers to be on a hat-trick. Ellingham again consolidated with the next three batsmen all making starts. However Mudeford kept plugging away and Joe Breedy (4-14) quickly wrapped up the bottom order to leave Ellingham 165 all out.

Mudeford started like a rocket scoring 50 runs in the first 5 overs. Opener David Vines (63) scoring his fifty in just 7 over’s. However after a 69 run opening partnership Mudeford collapsed with no other batsmen scoring more than 5 as Ellingham spinner Tyler (4-14) enjoying plenty of success as Mudeford were all out for 89.

Hampshire Cricket League - Regional Division4 South West

May 8th Ringwood 11 vs Mudeford IV
Ringwood 117 all out lost to Mudeford 120 – 7 by 3 wickets.

On a cold, wet and windy May Saturday the Hampshire Cricket League returned. With many players in three or four layers Mudeford won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Mudeford again our in a transition period with many of the older member of the club having retired over the last couple of years Saturdays 4th team consisted of just 4 adult players. Joe Breddy and Connor Pearce both from the U15 side took the new ball and both found considerable movement. It was Joe who stared the game in explosive fashion taking wickets with his third and forth ball. Connor Pearce (2-24) then received a large slice of luck removing the third Ringwood batsmen to leave Ringwood on 3-3 from 3 overs.  Joe then claimed his third wicket of the match to leave them on 17-4 before the rain came and a very small break in play.

Upon resumption a change of bowler almost brought the 5th wicket when Wayne Dodds (2-24) enticed Ringwood opening bat S Bailey into a rare loose shoot. His leg side flick went straight to the fielder who then spilled the easy chance. Bailey (26) then continued to build his innings playing calmly as wickets fell around him.
Mudeford continued to take wickets but A Gould (38) found the conditions to his liking playing a number of classical cricket shots as he kept the strike and began to get Ringwood to a good total in difficult conditions. Joe Breddy was then brought back on and quickly cleaned up the last two wickets. Joe finished with 5 wickets for 19 runs from 8.1 over’s.

Mudeford reply started well as opening batsmen David Vines (38) and Liam Kelly took early boundaries. However after his heroics with the bat A Gould (3-34) proved to be a difficult bowler to face with the a mixture of yorkers and back of length bowling at a pace a bit quicker than Regional 4 standard. However Mudeford were able to score at a quick pace but hindered by wickets falling at regular intervals. Indeed at 88-6 the game could have gone either way. Thankfully for Mudeford Wayne Dodds and Paul Pearce both hit two boundaries each to reach the target.

In challenging conditions the game was played in a friendly atmosphere as two well matched sides played Cricket to the spirit of the game.
